help:posts
A post represents a single image that's been uploaded. Each post can have many tags, comments, translation notes, and a single artist commentary. Each post may also belong to multiple pools. If you have an account, you can edit the tags, leave comments, upvote or downvote the post, or add the post to your favorites or favorite groups.
Searching
To search, enter your tags in the search box in the top left. Separate each tag by spaces and separate words within tags by underscores. For example, searching for blonde_hair blue_eyes will return every post that has both the blonde hair tag and the blue eyes tag.
Be aware that tags for characters and series are usually known by their original Japanese names, not their English names. For example, the tag on Danbooru for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. See help:tags for more information.
There are also metatags that let you search by things like image width, height, filesize, rating, score, uploader, upload date, and more. For example: rating:General, width:1920 height:1080, hatsune_miku order:score. See help:cheatsheet for a complete list of what you can do.
You can use blacklists to hide posts with tags you don't want to see. There are certain tags that are hidden by default; you can use the blacklist box in the sidebar to toggle these hidden posts on or off, or click the "..." menu to edit your blacklist settings.
Finally, note that Members are limited to two tags per search; see help:users for details.
Tagging
To edit the tags of a post, click the "Edit" link beneath the image. You can also press the "E" or "shift+E" keys to open the edit box as a shortcut.
All users are allowed (and encouraged!) to add or remove tags to posts. You don't need any special privileges to fix the tags on a post; you only need an account.
If you need to create a new copyright, character, or artist tag, you can do so by tagging the post with copyright:name, character:name, or artist:name. See help:tags for details.
Uploading
You can upload a new post by clicking the Upload link at the top of the page. All posts on Danbooru are uploaded by users of the site; you're allowed and encouraged to upload posts yourself.
See help:upload for more details about how to upload.
Tag List
In both the post listing page and on individual post pages you'll notice a list of tags with links next to them. Here's an explanation of what the links are:
?
This links to the wiki page for the tag. If the tag is an artist tag, then you'll be taken to their artist page with a list of links to their social media sites.
950
The number next to the tag represents how many posts there are with that tag. This includes all posts, including deleted posts and posts not visible to all users (status:banned, censored tags).
Color
Red means the tag represents an artist. Green means the tag represents a character. Purple means the tag represents a copyright (things like anime, manga, games, or novels). Blue means the tag is a general-purpose tag. Yellow means the tag represents meta information about the post (things like whether the post is translated, animated, or has commentary).
On the front page, the tag list will show the most popular tags within the last 24 hours. When searching for a tag, the tag list will show closely related tags (tags that are frequently used with the searched tag).
Mode Menu
Gold and above users will notice a menu labeled "Mode" in the sidebar on the main listing page. This menu lets you make several changes without ever leaving the listing page. Simply select an option and whenever you click on a thumbnail, the action will be performed in the background.
View
This is the default mode. Whenever you click on a thumbnail, you'll go to that post.
Edit
Whenever you click on a thumbnail, an edit box will appear. Here you can easily change the post's tags from the listing page without opening the entire post.
Tag script
Write a tag script into the text box that appears, and it will be applied each time you click on the thumbnail of a post. This allows you to quickly add or remove tags to many posts at once. See help:tag scripts for details on creating tag scripts.
Favorite
Whenever you click on a thumbnail, that post will be added to your list of favorites.
Unfavorite
Whenever you click on a thumbnail, that post will be removed from your list of favorites.
Thumbnails
You can click the "Size" menu in the top right of the page to change the thumbnail size to make thumbnails bigger or smaller.
You can click the "..." menu and enable "Show scores" to show upvote/downvote buttons beneath each post.
Borders
You will notice that some thumbnails have a colored border. The meaning of this border depends on the color.
Blue
The post is pending moderator approval or was flagged for deletion.
Black/Grey
The post is deleted.
Green
The post has child posts.
Yellow
The post has a parent post.
