break action

A type of gun action where the gun opens up and the barrel bends down on a hinge. Bullets or shells are directly inserted into the breech (or cylinders if it's a revolver).

Most commonly seen on shotguns, but may also be seen on other weapons, such as revolvers or grenade launchers.
