The artist themselves have said that the man is supposed to be the father, not Chihiro.
Amusingly, this meme association is known enough that Pixpedia mentions it in the article they have on the commercial, theorizing that it might be one reason why the commercial went viral in the West (while simultaneously being confused on why Kagurabachi is viral).
